I would like everyone to know about the
excellent care our family received in a recent visit to our ED. My 21
month old daughter had a seizure @ home. From the 911 operator, to the
ED, I knew she was getting the best care. Everyone was very reassuring
and very helpful. I would like to thank everyone who was involved in her
care. Hans Edwards- EMS, Susie- EDT, Suzie- ED RN, Lu- ED RN, Margaret
in CT, Dr. SanMiguel, and anyone else who was involved in the excellent
care she received. I know that sometimes we rarely get thanked for the
jobs that we do, and sometimes feel like we don't make a difference...I
want you all to know that I thank you so much for everything you did.

Two weeks ago, my partner and had the unfortunate experience of being
on the receiving end of the care spectrum, we are both nurses. But Jackie
Kenan, RT at the Medical Mall and Dr. Remington embodied service excellence.
Their care and compassion made a difficult situation bearable. It was
top notch service and wonderful culturally competent care respecting diversity.
Many thanks to Jackie and Dr. Remington.

To My Dearest Hospital Family,
I wish to convey my thanks for your kind expressions of sympathy in the
recent loss of my nine month old grandson, Ethan. My family sincerely
and deeply appreciates all those who sent flowers, cards, food, made donations,
called with the kindest words, and remembered us in your thoughts and
prayers. Every effort was greatly appreciated. My hospital family was
there for me every step of the way from Emergency, Nursing Administration,
Foundation, Human Resources, Cape Fear site, every department, with out
stretched arms, reassuring precious faces, warmth and kindness, supporting
me with the feeling that my loss was also their loss! We have an awesome
Emergency Department and our Emergency Department physicians and staff
have such compassion and understanding. Your support will never be forgotten.
It would take a whole page to name everyone's kindnesses individually.
Please let me say to you: "Love all whom you hold dear. Precious
is the time you share. Do not wait for tomorrow, for tomorrow may not
be....." Our little angel went back to heaven, although Ethan's stay
on Earth seemed like a fleeting moment in time, our loving memories of
him will last forever! Thank you each and everyone from the bottom of
my heart!

To Paramedics Julius McAdams, Matthew Stevens, and David Wallace for completing
the 54 hour Tactical Medical Operators course offered through the Department
of Homeland Defense. The Counter Narcotics and Terrorism Programs (CONTOMS)
is a certification that is derived from a nationally standardized curriculum
and is designed to meet the needs of those EMTs, paramedics and physicians
who function as part of a tactical/special operations team. These specially
trained New Hanover Regional Emergency Medical Services paramedics collaborate
with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response
Team responding as the medical component of the Emergency Response Team
(ERT). Mr. McAdams, Mr. Stevens, and Mr. Wallace are now certified to
function as Emergency Medical Technician-Tactical (EMT-T), over and above
their paramedic. They performed well during the course and we appreciate
their time and commitment.

Sometimes there are just not words to adequately express
your appreciation, but here is my feeble attempt.
I would like to thank my NHHN family who, over the last nine years, has
helped me to become the nurse I am today. The year I spent on the ninth
floor taught me so much and helped me to become a caring and empathetic
nurse. Thanks to all the nurses who helped me grow there- Theresa Tate,
Rosemary Kibler, Carol Mann, Cheryl Autry, Lorrie Drinkwater and Lisa
Wicks. Also to the CNAs who were of immense help, Kathy Lofton, Nita Grady,
Evelina Johnson and LaQuana Vaught. My OR family, you have helped me through
some difficult times and kept a smile on my face. I have grown so much
in the 5 years I have spent here and I love what I do! I have learned
so much from all of you, and you have made a greater impression than you
realize. I cannot express my thanks enough. Especially to Natalie Priest,
the first nurse I ever met here, you have helped me to excel. Your leadership
helped me to strive for higher aspirations. Team two is lucky to have
you. I have learned so much from each and every one of you and I will
take all that I have learned with me to SC.Thanks to all who have been
a support to me, especially over this last year with our crash course
in Tourette's Syndrome. So many of you have given me a strong shoulder
to cry on, or words of encouragement. You do not know how much this meant
to me and I will never forget it. You made a difference to my family and
especially to Luc, who appreciates all of the prayers.
- Love in Christ, Patti Humbert, RN, CNOR
